Nadia Ksenia Porycky explores themes of folklore, fashion, and environmental research which have informed the art she makes over the past 10 years. Her style pushes boundaries between figurative painting and mystical realism giving a unique voice to her work whether through watercolor, oil paint, or mural art. Most recently, her creative practice has evolved into an exploration of patterns and textiles which she paints large-scale in oil. She sees textiles as a figurative archive in which many stories and histories are woven and through painting fabrics, her goal is to untangle the unique fibers of her roots, learning more about herself through the process.
Nadia has exhibited her work in numerous cities nationally, closely collaborated on local Chicago art initiatives and community projects, helped build and paint exhibit props for various nature centers, hand-painted custom designs and logos on Officially Commissioned Trophy Footballs, and painted custom murals for several small businesses in the Midwest. Because her art practice examines storytelling at its core, Nadia hopes to invite open dialogue of other individuals' traditions and memories and to collaborate with other creatives, environmentalists, and organizations to share the experience of storytelling through art.
